Tao or Dao is a Chinese word (道) signifying “way”, “path”, “route”, “road” or sometimes more loosely “doctrine”, “principle” or “holistic beliefs”. In the context of East Asian philosophy, Tao is the natural order of the universe whose character one’s human intuition must discern in order to realize the potential for individual wisdom. This intuitive knowing of “life” cannot be grasped as a concept; it is known through actual living experience of one’s everyday being. The T‘ai Chi T’u or taijitu (太极图) is a symbol widely used to represent the Tao and its pursuit. It represents the Yin Yang and their union, the supreme polarity (T’ai Chi).
Yin and Yang are:
  • Opposite: they are in opposite side.
  • Complementary: together they compose the whole circle.
  • Trasforming constantly into each other: the dots represent the fact that in its maximum the Yang generates Yin and vice versa.
