Anterior surface of greater trochanter <\/p>\n
Abducts femur, rotates thigh medially <\/p>\n
Superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1) <\/p>\n
In locomotion, this muscle (along with the Gluteus Medius) prevents the pelvis from dropping (adduction of thigh) toward the opposite swinging leg. <\/p>\n
