Protraction and retraction are anterior-posterior movements <\/strong>of the scapula<\/strong> or mandible<\/strong>. <\/p>\n For the mandible, protraction occurs when the lower jaw is pushed forward, to stick out the chin, while retraction pulls the lower jaw backward.
